All aboard the acai berry bus!

When the acai berry bus came to Melbourne, I didn’t just miss it, I never got on. Recently, I ate my very first acai berry bowl at one of my favourite local café’s, Thompson Street Foodstore.

My acai berry bowl came topped with home-made granola, fresh fruit, compote, toasted coconut and a sprinkle of seeds. Super tasty, light on the tummy and nutritious – it was everything my breakfast dreams were made of!

Acai (ah-sah-ee) berries are grown in Brazil and have become incredibly popular around the globe. Not only do these tiny purple berries have an incredible flavour – rich and fruity with a hint of chocolate – their nutritional profile packs a punch!

Widely considered one of the top superfoods, acai berries are very high in antioxidants. In fact, acai berries have more than double the antioxidants of blueberries and nearly ten times more than grapes. Antioxidants are an essential part of a healthy diet because they help to neutralise damaging free radicals.

As well as being an antioxidant rich superhero, acai berries can help to boost energy levels, support our immune system and promote a healthy digestive system.
